In the past year we have had two family members find out that they have colon cancer. One of them is only 40 years old and had to have surgery and chemo.  He recently had his checkup after going through all of that and Praise the Good Lord he is cancer free. Then recently the other family member found out he had a large cancerous mass in his bowel. He is 81. He had surgery and they removed the cancer mass and we soon found out after that that he was also cancer free and would not have to have any other treatments. So we are all praising God for the healing that he has given these two men. We are so grateful.

Last week the weather was not good where we live.  We ended up getting lots of snow and blizzard conditions.  The temperatures were below zero and the wind chills were excruciating.  Our sons cars wouldn’t start for a couple of days, it was crazy. The weather has improved greatly and we may actually get warm enough to melt some of the snow away.  We are all very ready for spring.

I have the weekend off from work and my husband and I are going to get away overnight somewhere.  We will probably do a little shopping, go out to eat, and maybe see a movie.  I think we are both in need of having this getaway.  I hope the weather will be good and that the time goes slow.  We are both very much looking forward to it.  Everyone should try and do this once in awhile.

Having a blog is kind of fun because you can share experiences in your life on a daily basis if you so desire.  I’m not that good though.  I can fall behind on posting on my blogs.  I do enjoy sharing things that my family and I do or share my opinion on a specific thing.  I love receiving comments on what I write. It is fun to hear from people around the world.  I am amazed at how far out the internet reaches.  It wasn’t that long ago that I got a comment from someone who lives outside the U.S. and I found that quite intriguing.

Wow! Christmas Eve…can you believe it? How do you spend your Christmas?  Do you open gifts with your family on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?  As a child we always opened our gifts on Christmas morning and I pretty much got my way to do it that way with our sons as they grew up.  My husband’s family opened their gifts on Christmas Eve so he kind of misses that.  On occasion we have done that and it’s been fun but it’s just not the same.  This year we are going to wait till tomorrow morning so that we are all home together all day long.  I am excited about it because I love Christmas and love watching our boys open their gifts.  The best part of Christmas is that Jesus was born and that he walked this earth like we do and he went to the cross to die for our sins that we may someday live with him in Heaven if we just repent and ask him into our heart.  He definitely is the reason for the season and we never forget that.

Just two days ago we got dumped on with about 8 inches of snow.  Where our sons live they received 11 inches. Most of Iowa got a lot of snow and if it wasn’t all snow it was ice too.  Then today the snow started falling again and I’m thinking we got another 2 inches plus the winds picked up and it was like a blizzard at times. I guess no one can complain that we won’t have a white Christmas because there is plenty of white snow all around us.  Tomorrow the winds are suppose to get even stronger and the wind chills are going to be way below 0 so hopefully people that don’t have to be out will just stay home.  I have to work but at least I live pretty close to where my job is at.

My husband and  may go to Des Moines tomorrow to do a little shopping and just goofing off.  It is suppose to be fairly mild out so the weather would be nice to be out in.  The only thing that is keeping me from getting too excited about going is the fact that every store we go into will probably be packed.  It’s less then 2 weeks from Christmas and with the weather being nice a person can only imagine that everyone will want to be shopping to get it done.  We’ll see if we actually go.  It’s not set in stone yet.

This time of year can be extremely busy in the stores with all the shoppers.  This morning I headed to town to do a little Christmas shopping and it was so nice.  It wasn’t busy at all and there were no long lines to stand in or fighting the crowds.  I actually got fairly close parking spots too which was nice on this very cold day.  I enjoyed myself very much and realize how nice it is to be able to shop during the week and earlier in the day.

My husband and I work at a retirement facility. Last night we had the Christmas party for the residents and staff.  We ate pizza and drank pop which was delicious.  A man came and played his guitar and we all sang Christmas carols.  It was a very nice evening. Then all the staff received a nice Christmas bonus from our employer and the residents.  It sure helps out at Christmas time to receive that money.  It is a real blessing.

Yesterday was my 50th birthday. I am a twin so she also had a special birthday.  My husband and I went to Cedar Falls and went to lunch with our sons who are in college.  We then attempted to get some Christmas shopping done but didn’t succeed at that too well.  We had a good time though.  We ate at the Pizza Ranch for their lunch buffet and it was very good.  All in all it was a nice birthday.
